A 30-foot creature lurking in the sea, experts have argued that it could explain some of the ships mysteriously lost. In 2005, marine biologists Tsunemi Kubodera and Kyoichi Mori snapped footage of a giant squid in these waters, aggressively attacking baited lines.
In October 2005, they found a startling discovery off the coast of Tokyo, near the Bonin Islands, and saw a giant squid close to 30 feet in length. The researchers from Japan’s National Science Museum identified the creature as an Architeuthis, a rare species that seizes bait with extreme force.
