The infamous disappearance of flight NC-16002
The disappearance of a Douglas DST airliner, registered NC16002, occurred on December 28, 1948, near the end of a scheduled flight from San Juan to Miami. The aircraft carried 29 passengers and three crew members, and the probable cause for the loss was ruled unknown.
Before the disappearance, the aircraft had been having electrical and battery difficulties, and the pilot, Lindquist, radioed the Miami airport to ask for landing instructions 50 miles away. After the airport response, the plane was nowhere to be seen as it neither landed nor arrived at the base.
