Richard Turpin: alias John Palmer
Starting as the second butcher in the family after his father, Turpin soon realized he wasn’t meant for the practical business. He later joined a gang of outlaws stealing cattle and sometimes deer too. However, he started his solo ventures by acting like a horse and carriage seller on highways and then looting the passerby and stealing their horses.
He wasn’t popular while alive, but after his death, his life was featured in Harrison Ainsworth’s novel “Rookwood.” The story revolves around Turpin’s adventure in a fictional way.
