Koose Munisamy Veerappan: the nightmare of bureaucrats
Veerappan was born in the early independence era of India and built an empire by selling illegal ivory and sandalwood. His business’s net worth was close to $2.6 million; however he made his name from kidnapping.
Kidnapping rich children and demanding ransom wasn’t his style. Instead, he kidnapped the parents of those rich children, famous politicians, celebrities, and even police personnel. With murder charges of around 184 people, mostly officers, pressed against him, he was killed by the cops in 2004.
