Out of time
Nowadays, no one can live without their phones. It is unthinkable to many of us. How could people have lived so many times without a trusty pocket companion? But maybe, after all, they have always existed, and people have used them since the 1920s.
This is a frame from The Circus, a Charlie Chaplin film, where you can clearly see a woman talking on the phone while walking in the background. She is clearly holding her hand to her ear as one would do if taken on a call. Have cell phones always existed, and they were covered up?
