A place to sit down
Almost vertigo-inducing, this structure made out of chairs towers over the people walking down the street. One can only imagine the catastrophe that would ensue if this carefully-made structure came falling down. I don’t think anyone wants to go out being flattened by chairs.
In fact, this was created by a Colombian artist called Doris Salcedo in honor of Istanbul’s migration history. There are 1,550 chairs in total and commemorate the people who were lost during the war. These represent the chairs where the disappeared won’t be able to sit.
