Western Diamondback Rattlesnake
The western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) is a venomous rattlesnake native to the southwestern United States and Mexico. One of three snake species found in the US is large enough to be considered dangerous to humans, along with the eastern diamondback rattlesnake and Mojave green rattlesnake. This western diamondback rattlesnake can camouflage itself into its environment in hiding, especially when trying to target its prey.

It also inhabits parts of Central America and South America as far south as Ecuador. They can be found in abundance in Texas over most areas eastward toward Louisiana, although there are no records from any counties westward beyond Hudspeth County. Their sandy scales and brown spots match the desert they camouflage into.
