Common Snipe
The common snipe is a small, stocky, wading bird inhabiting wet meadows, marshes, and tidal flats. It has a long thick bill and short legs with long toes. They use their bill to probe in mud or shallow water for insects (snails) and worms. They are very secretive birds that prefer to run away when disturbed rather than fly off quickly as most other wading birds do.

They can be difficult to see because their camouflage brown and white feathers allow them to blend into their surroundings. Common snipes defend their territory against others by giving out warning calls and attacking intruders by pecking at them with their bills or kicking with their feet (equipped with claws).
