Horned Adder
The horned adder, also known as the saw-scaled viper, is a venomous snake species found in Africa. It is a member of the viper family and is not poisonous (but still venomous). This snake has a triangular head with a sharp snout, hence its alternative name, “horned viper.” They have large eyes that allow them to see well in dark conditions, such as those at night or when they are underground.
Their scales are dark brown or black with lighter colored stripes. The backsides of these snakes have reddish stripes, while their undersides are white or cream-colored with dark spots on each scale, making it look like someone sprinkled cinnamon sugar over them. It would be difficult to spot one blended in with rocks and sand.
