Righteye Flounder
Righteye flounder is a type of flatfish also called fluke and flounder. The name “fluke” is derived from the fact that the righteye flounder’s eyes are located on the left side of its head, the opposite side from where they are in humans. This fish has a brown and olive-green body with seven to eight spines running along each side near its midsection, with one spine on either end.
Their pectoral fins are transparent or translucent and have an orange stripe at their base. Their eyes can be found on either side of their head (yes, both sides), which helps them see predators from all directions. They lie down on sand or mud during low tide periods, so bigger fish don’t eat them. The righteye flounder is good at camouflaging itself in this low to the ground position.
