City & Art Museum, Ordos, China
Engineer Buckminster Fuller created a vision for a domed city in the 1960s for Manhattan. This city would be a controlled habitat that would reduce pollution and be fully sustainable. While the concept of a domed city has been used in movies and fiction, China’s Ordos Museum is based on original designs. The building is a futuristic shell to show the history and enact Buckminster’s visions.

Like the UAE, China is also a hub for massive buildings with futuristic designs. They plan to offer a blank canvas for architects keen to flex their creative muscles; the Ordos Museum is an example. The body of the building was created by the US-Chinese firm MAD. The 41,000 square foot creation was adorned with polished metal wrapping to give this futuristic look.
