Engineers and Architects Will Admire These Futuristic and Sustainable Buildings from Around the World

August 10, 2010 by Shelley Thompson

Experts continue to push the limits of engineering and architecture and work hand-in-hand to make revolutionary structures that defy norms. Who would have thought buildings could be constructed in places besides conventional land and cities? Many underwater hotels and buildings have been developed and open to the public. There are plans to build space hotels and other eco-friendly buildings that are self-sufficient and will blend seamlessly with future building plans. Infrastructure and urban development play major roles in a nation’s industrialization and the global economy. Here, we have compiled 45 futuristic buildings and cities whose designs have shaped the world of architecture and deserve a chance to be recognized by the entire world. We know this compilation will provide more insight into futuristic buildings, provide information on their sustainable design, and inform you about the architectural themes behind their structures.

The Line, Saudi Arabia

The Line is a monolithic city that is part of the ambitious plan of the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, to diversify the kingdom’s economy and remake part of its geography. The city is expected to be 200 meters wide and 500 meters above sea level, making it higher than the Empire State Building in the United States.

According to the newly released concepts, The Line features a futuristic walled building with an enclosed open interior stretching eastward from the Red Sea. The Line would serve as an accommodation unit allowing residents to enjoy a 5-minutes walk. The building is also projected to have a high-speed train to transport people in less than 20 minutes. It is estimated that the city would cost hundreds of billions of dollars to build, and construction has begun.
