Guangzhou Opera House, China
The Zaha Hadid project for the Guangzhou Opera House (GOH), called “two stones,” won an international competition with other prominent architects like Coop Himmelbau and Rem Koolhaas. Guangzhou Opera was built on Zhujiang West Road, Tianhe, Guangdong Province, China. Hadid shaped this structure to resemble two stones on the bank of Pearl River.

The structure has an independent auditorium of concrete, located within a bold exposed granite and glass. It is coated with a steel frame and took over five years to build. The building was praised and regarded as highly theatrical. The design of the Opera House is a unique exploration of the contextual urban structures.
