CopenHill, Copenhagen, Denmark
CopenHill is another structure among Denmark’s goals to design a waste-to-energy building. The building would also be among the first projects to achieve Copenhagen’s goal of becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral city by 2025. The structure utilizes an unused building element. It has a 44,000-square-foot plant, a ski slope, a recreational hill, tree-lined hiking trails, playgrounds, fitness structures, climbing walls, and beautiful views across the city.

The precise positioning of the plant’s machinery made the rooftop’s efficient sloping design possible, under which 440,000 tons of waste are converted into enough electricity and heating for 150,000 homes annually. It was completed in 2017 and was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group.
