The Bullitt Center, Seattle, Washington
The Bullitt Center in Washington, Seattle, is the first commercial building to be awarded the Living Building certificate, a prestigious award given to buildings that created notable impacts in the world of sustainability and sustainable design concerning architecture. Since most awarded buildings are non-commercial, the Bullitt Center is different as it boasts 100% on-site renewable energy.

It has water and waste management, floor-to-ceiling windows to harness natural daylight and ventilation, and heavy timber framing to reduce its carbon footprint. Its defining feature is that it requires zero energy to power as the building is powered by an overhanging photovoltaic panel on the roof. The building plan was designed by The Miller Hull Partnership and finished construction in 2013 on 52,000 sq. feet of land.
