What Can Your Smartphone Not Do? These Are the Mobile Tech Trends to Expect in 2024

November 7, 2024 by Shelley Thompson

An average smartphone is a jack-of-all-trade; it can take clear-cut images and process documents like a computer. The interesting thing about the mobile technology industry is that it’s always evolving– and we’re more than pleased to move along with the trend. In this article, we’ll explore and predict five mobile tech trends to expect in the coming year.

Immersive experience with foldable devices

About two decades ago, foldable devices seemed to be telling us goodbye. Well, little did we know that they’d be coming back bigger and better. We already have many premium foldable phones, from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold to the OnePlus Open.

In 2024, we’ll be seeing more of this trend. Since eCommerce, gaming, and other apps offer more immersive experiences in foldable devices, more brands will start incorporating the trend. Who doesn’t want a bigger screen?

Better connectivity with 5G

Of course, 4G is still the predominant wireless network in most parts of the world. However, the story is bound to change as more companies and subscribers begin to get exposed to the amazing feats that can be performed with 5G.

In the coming year, enhanced functionality, faster connectivity, and less than a second latency will draw people to the 5G wireless network. The falling prices of the network will facilitate its adoption in 2024.

Health-centric mobile apps

Aside from the ability to ask Google about a medical system on your phone within a minute, you can also get workout reminders. However, mobile app developers have shown that they are just getting started in the mobile health aspect.

According to top mobile companies, more apps focused on making healthcare and fitness easier are in the works. This means developing custom mobile health applications to aid in healthcare delivery.

Cross-platform advancement

We all know the frustration when our Apple device can’t operate an app because it was developed for Android phones. This has raised the need for cross-platform mobile development.

Mobile app developers are working on developing apps that can be accessed across platforms, and 2024 will probably be the ultimate breakthrough year. Developers will now use one code base instead of creating new codes for each operating system.

Wearable technology

Wearable devices are becoming more popular because of their versatility. From monitoring one’s vitals to staying committed to a workout routine, wearable devices give users more options. Well, more is coming next year.

Most of these wearable devices will be integrated with mHealth applications in the coming year. This integration will enhance closer monitoring by healthcare providers. Wearables will become more prevalent in 2024.
