The explosion on Krakatoa produced the loudest sound known to man
In 1883, one of the worst volcanic eruptions took place. The blast was so monumental that 70% of the island of Krakatoa, Indonesia, and much of the surrounding archipelago were destroyed. It was heard almost 1,930 miles away in Perth, Australia, and it is said that the noise traveled the globe seven times.
It triggered several tsunamis and earthquakes in the area, and it is estimated that 36,417 people died due to these events. The volcano had been spewing ash, and there had been several seismic events that were felt thousands of miles away, but nobody expected the eruption to be as severe as it was.
