Ella Fitzgerald had perfect pitch
Ella Fitzgerald was undoubtedly one of the greatest singers of all time. She was nicknamed the “First Lady of Song” and the “Queen of Jazz” for a reason. Her vocal range was exceptional, and her purity of tone was so perfect that she was said to have had perfect pitch.
She first started singing after winning a contest at the Apollo Theater in Harlem in 1934. The following year she joined the Chick Webb Orchestra with whom she recorded her first hit, “A-Tisket, A-Tasket.” After the band’s break-up in 1942, she went on to collaborate with stars such as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.
