A Japanese man survived not one but two nuclear blasts
One of the darkest moments in history was August 1945, when the United States attacked the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, dropping two atomic bombs. This marked the end of WWII and led to Japan’s surrender. Between 129,000 and 226,000 people were killed, mostly civilians.
Among the survivors was engineer Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the only person officially confirmed by the Japanese government to have survived both explosions. His bosses criticized him and called him crazy for having gone to work the day after a nuclear bomb obliterated his hometown. He lived to be 93 years old.
