Charlie Duke left this picture and one other item on the Moon
Charles Moss Duke Jr. was a crew member for Apollo 16, the fifth lunar landing mission. For a while, his trip to space was put on hold after he contracted rubella from a friend’s son. Fortunately, the flight was delayed for other reasons, and he recovered in time to make it to space and leave this picture on the Moon.
In reality, he left two objects. The first was a photo of his family, and the second was a commemorative medal issued by the Air Force, of which Duke was a member. They had made it to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 1972.
