Unknown hero Vincent Coleman saved 300 lives
There are times when regular people become heroes. In 1917 in Halifax, Canada, a ship laden with explosives collided with another and caught on fire. At the pier nearby was train dispatcher Vincent Coleman. He was warned about the incoming disaster, so he stayed to send word to all incoming trains to stay away.
Thanks to his message, the train managed to stop on time, and its 300 passengers were luckily saved. Vince, however, died in the explosion alongside his Chief Clerk, William Lovett. Vince is understandably still hailed as a hero in Canada today.
