Want to Know how The First Toothbrush or Washing Machine Came to Be? These First-Ever Inventions are Fascinating

August 9, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

Before the mass production of numerous household appliances, have you ever wondered how these materials and electronics came to be? Do you know the backstory of your favorite item or how the inventors compiled the miniature components into a fully functioning machine? Here we have compiled 45 backstories about the invention of most household materials, appliances, and everyday items we use. These first ever made inventions were in the early stages but have come a long way. This article will take you back in time to when popular items were built and commercialized for use. So put on your corset and step into this time machine of inventions.

The invention of the telescope

The first-ever telescope was created in 1609 by Galileo Galilei. He is recognized as the original creator of the telescope, even though there were other forms of telescopes by other inventors before him. Galileo Galilei’s telescope design was based on the “Dutch perspective glasses.”

While other designs magnified images twice as big, Galilei’s model could see images 20 times. He also designed them without seeing prior designs. He presented his creation to the Venetian Senate and was awarded the creator ahead of others, as his design could reveal mountains and craters on the moon.
