Who put Bella in the Wych Elm?
The story of ‘Bella’ as people started calling her, is one of those mysteries that didn’t gain much public attention initially; however, after a series of graffiti that read “Who put Bella in the ‘Witch’ Elm?” began appearing across the town, the case reignited the public’s interest.
In 1943 four young boys in England accidentally discovered a woman’s body in a Wych Elm tree. The body and face were destroyed beyond recognition, and the name ‘Bella’ was coined by one of the people who later started the graffiti on the streets. Nobody knows who put Bella in that Wych tree and why they did.
