A human’s DNA can mutate out in space
Have you ever wondered what happens to people’s bodies when they go to space? Astronaut Scott Kelly offered researchers a one-of-a-chance opportunity to study this in detail since he has a twin brother who shares almost the same physical and genetic characteristics.
When he came back, scientists observed that there had been several changes in his body, such as damage to his DNA, changes in his gene expression, and abnormalities in some of his chromosomes. They also found he had developed a thickening in his retina and his carotid artery, as well as shifts in his gut microbiome.
