A floating turd made an appearance during the Apollo 10 mission
Human waste disposal in space was a conundrum for NASA to solve. Today’s systems are much more effective at getting rid of urine and feces than they were in early expeditions. When the Apollo 10 mission transcripts were officially declassified, we discovered how much of a problem waste management was.
Six days into the mission, Commander Tom Stafford was speaking with ground control when he saw a turd floating through the cabin. Of course, none of the other mission members owned up to having done it. Some even described the texture of their last bowel movements in detail to justify it was not theirs.
