Saturn’s moon Titan has methane lakes on its surface
Space provides us with unending wonders to investigate. You might already know about Saturn and its wonderful rings, but did you know that one of its 53 named moons, Titan, has giant lakes on its surface that contain liquid methane? The Cassini mission proved this in 2007.
They were hard to detect because the lakes did not reflect the Sun and could not be seen. However, the probe later took images from the planet’s northern regions, where a great number of large, smooth areas were identified. Clouds of methane and heavy moisture seen near the Moon’s surface were thought to be evaporation from the lakes.
