A meteor impacted close to a town in Russia without a warning
You would think we would see a meteor coming before it entered the Earth’s atmosphere, but you would be wrong. In 2013, a meteor impacted the region of Chelyabinsk, Russia, with little warning. It went undetected because its source direction was close to the Sun, which masked it.
The impact, understandably, caused quite a bit of panic amongst the population. It is estimated that around 1,500 people sustained injuries, although they were mainly caused by shockwaves from the meteor’s impact, which led to windows shattering and some buildings being damaged.
