Goddess of the Sun
The goddess of the sun is represented as a source of power and a force of light in mythology. Mostly all power-yielding positions are held by men, but the sun is an exception, as today we are more likely to associate the sun with a woman. This perhaps represents the power shift from a patriarchal society to a modern matriarchal one.
Maria’s creation of the goddess of the sun is a lady, fully covered with golden flowers. Basking in the sun, the muse is ethereal, depicting the realism of the goddess of the sun. In this case, her face is fully covered as her overall appearance is the light itself.
