This is how stingrays look when they are hung to dry
Have you ever seen a stingray in the water? These sea creatures are closely related to sharks and, usually, look like graceful underwater blankets. They are not very strange looking normally, but when you take them out of the water they begin to look like demons coming straight out of hell.
Now that is something you cannot unsee. Unfortunately, many species of stingrays are endangered today because of irresponsible fishing practices. They are considered a delicacy in some regions of Asia, and their grippy, textured skin is sometimes used to cover the handles of some Japanese swords.
