Amongst the many medical wonders of the modern era, radiography is one of the most interesting. The earliest images were captured in 1895 by W.C. Röntgen, and they quickly became an essential tool for diagnosis. X-rays work by using radiation to see the inside of the body. Objects with various densities reflect the rays in different ways, which is why bones are seen as almost a solid piece of white, while muscles and other body parts are seen in lighter shades. These images can also capture any foreign items that might be trapped inside people or pets. Here is a compilation of curious X-rays that captured the weirdest and the most incredible objects found inside human and animal bodies.

This is how a cleft toe looks on an X-ray
The human body is full of wonders, and no two people are the same. Everybody has small differences that make them who they are. This person’s cleft toe is one of the most uncommon mutations. However, the most curious part is that they did not just have two toenails, but also an extra bone.

It can be seen clearly in the X-ray that the second toe has more than one bone. Those are called the distal phalanges, and this person was born with two on the same finger. We wonder if that extra phalange gives them more stability when they walk. Maybe in the future, we will all have six toes instead of five.
