This Bald Uakari Uses it’s Red Face to Communicate
Talk of cuteness, fierceness, and being majestic; monkeys have it all, but in the case of Red Uakari (Cacajao calves), it may not be what you think. This creature is downright surreal. Known as a dweller of the top trees in the Amazon River, Red Uakari has a coat of longish auburn, and at times, it can be white hair topped with a brightly red bald head. When you come across this creature, you would think it’s a mascot that left his head part costume at home before heading to work.
This is the only red-headed money you would find. Do not mistake its coloring for paint. Instead, it results from specialized blood vessels close to the skin. There have been some theories that its red face means a good sign of health, and according to Bowler’s theory, their hairless faces may help visually communicate. Its face is about expressing, and the bald uakari often wears a worried face. However, they have significantly reduced in number by 30 percent, which may likely be a result of loss of habitat and hunting, making them vulnerable on the IUCNbRed list of species facing danger.
