The Bald Vulture Will Creep Into Your Nightmares
Even without having a bald head, have you ever found someone who claimed vultures are beautiful? It is certainly not possible! When you come across a king vulture (Sarcoramphus papa) in flight, or think about their nature – feeding on dead bodies, living in a messy and stinky environment, places ridden with bacteria- you don’t consider them as one of the ‘beautiful’ animals.
For a long time, many have believed that the hairlessness of vultures has been associated with scavenging. Placing their head continuously into dead bodies would cause this to happen. Also, their baldness has been connected to thermoregulation. Their bare skin helps in regulating temperature.
