Futuro II House
Originally called the Futuro House, the Futuro II House is a home built in the 1970s popularly referred to as “UFO Houses.” Finnish architect Matti Suuronen designed the Futuro Pod, and the shape is similar to a flying saucer, while the entrance takes the shape of an airplane hatch.
Suuronen designed it as a ski cabin that would be quick to heat and easy to construct in rough terrain to build a universally transportable home that could be mass replicated and situated in almost any environment. The Futuro House was the result of the aftermath of Finland’s war and reflects technology, the conquering of space, unprecedented economic growth, and an increase in leisure time.
