Melnikov House by Konstantin Melnikov
The Melnikov House is a famous structure in Russia and was built by architect Konstantin Melnikov. This classic residence represents the forefront of 1920s Russian avant-garde and is situated on Krivoarbatsky Lane in the former district of Arbat, Moscow. The Melnikov House is unique as it has an entirely different aesthetic from the standard Soviet residential architecture.
The concept arose from his schematic draft for the Zuev Workers Club. It comprised two interlocking cylinders that stood three stories high with enough space to house his family, paintings, and architectural studio. Unfortunately for Konstantin, his right to practice architecture was withdrawn in 1937 at the First All-Union Congress of Soviet Architects.
