Villa d’Este in Tivoli
The Villa d’Este is a 16th-century villa in Tivoli, near Rome, known for its hillside Italian Renaissance garden and fountains. The garden was also recognized as a UNESCO heritage site as it has a unique fountains system, including 51 fountains and a nymphaeum.
The garden is on a central axis with supporting cross-axes. The plants are continually maintained by 500 water jets in fountains, pools, and water troughs. This feature was admired and copied over the next two centuries in gardens all over the world.
