A squeegee handle saved six men from the World Trade Center tragedy
Although it may not seem like it, squeegees can do more than help clean windows or collect pet fur from the carpet. On September 11, 2001, this ordinary object was the reason why six men could escape the World Trade Center tragedy.
That day, a window washer named Jan Demczur found himself trapped in an elevator in One World Trade Center with five other men. To get out, he used his squeegee’s handle to pry open the elevator door, cut through the drywall, and finally escape before the tower collapsed.
