Crochet octopuses help premature babies feel more secure
Sometimes, newborns need a little additional care from the start. For premature babies, staying in the neonatal intensive care unit may be necessary to help them grow and thrive. Still, that also means they can’t be as close to their mothers as they should.
To sort that problem out, doctors and nurses in many hospitals started giving those babies something special: crochet octopuses. These plush toys make the little ones feel more secure because the stuffed animal’s tentacles remind them of their mother’s umbilical cord.
