Edith Macefield became a folk hero because she refused to sell her house
Many Disney fans, adults and children, have seen and been charmed by Disney’s animated movie Up. It tells the story of a man who refuses to sell his house to prevent it from being demolished to build a shopping mall. Well, it seems to us that the film is based on a real story.
In 2006, an 84-year-old woman named Edith Macefield declined an offer to sell her house and make way for commercial development in Seattle, Washington. After she died, the locals who admired her got tattoos as a reminder of Macefield’s strong convictions.
