Lazy Baker Gadgets

March 24, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

Whether you’re an excellent baker or you’re like, really bad at it, we can all agree that baking is certainly a science, and what’s a science without the necessary and proper tools? So today we’re talking about gadgets that will totally change the way you bake. (Especially if you’re like, really bad at it right now. Thanks, technology!) Let’s get started!

Candy Thermometer

When a recipe calls for a thermometer this probably means that your project needs to be at a specific temperature or else something about it will be off, whether it be the taste or the texture. This is a great one to have on hand because it clips right to your pot as opposed to the handheld ones that you end up wiping off a million times while you complete your delicious project.

Our pick: Hanging Hook with Pot Clips from Amazon ($13, shop here)

Cooling Racks

Okay, we get that these aren’t the biggest advances technology has ever seen, but these are super handy if you’re a baker of any kind. Cooling racks stop the baking process (unlike when you just leave baked goods on a cookie sheet, for instance) and they allow air to circulate all over and around your baked goods allowing them to cool faster and preventing them from getting soggy.

Our pick: Stainless Steel Cooling Rack from Amazon ($16, shop here)

Acetate

Whether it’s a Boston cream cake or ice cream cake you’re whippin’ up, acetate will keep it all together. You’ll simply line your round pan with it, construct your cake, then when it’s time to serve your dessert you’ll just peel the acetate off!

Our pick: Cake Collar Acetate Roll from Amazon ($10, shop here)

Olive Oil Sprayer

Have you ever gone to spray something with oil and it goes all over and then later you slip and fall on it because you didn’t wipe it up? No? Well, we still recommend an olive oil sprayer to gently spray your oil.

Our pick: Olive Oil Sprayer from Amazon ($15, shop here)

Egg Separator

It’s not unusual for a recipe to call for egg yolks or egg whites and sometimes separating them can be tricky. But nab yourself an egg separator and you’ll never have to toss perfectly good eggs because of egg white in the egg yolk, or egg yolk in the egg white. Or eggshell in any of it. You get the idea.

Our pick: Yolk Frog from Amazon ($13, shop here)

Whisk Wiper

Don’t get us wrong, your mouth works perfectly well for cake mixes or even cookie dough, but when it comes to whisking stuff that isn’t so delicious, you should have a whisk wiper on hand. These make cleaning off whisks super easy and keep you from using a bunch of paper towels, which inevitably results in leaving a mound of gunky paper towels on your kitchen cabinets.
