Ground Beetle
Ground beetles are large insects that play a huge role in agricultural and garden settings. Just as their name suggests, they are mostly found in cracks in the soil, under leaves and debris, or running along the ground.

It appears that they love the ground so much because although they have wings, they rarely fly. They run very fast when they are provoked or disturbed. Some species of ground beetles release a foul smell to deter predators from coming close to them, but they prey on earthworms, maggots, flies, and other ground dwellers.
