Black Scavenger Fly
The black scavenger flies, or ensign flies, are usually found around rotting plants, waste, or decaying animal material. They are known for strikingly resembling ants, except for the enormous “waist” and black glossy body. If you have a pet who goes to the backyard often to do his “business,” or you leave your trash out for a long time, you will see these insects. That’s their favorite kind of buffet.

The picture above seems to be caught just in time as if the little diva decided to strike a pose before taking flight. Maybe it knew that it was the center of attention; after all, those large eyes must have seen the camera focused on it. There are no words to describe how beautiful this insect looks, especially its translucent wings!
