Blue Metallic Tiger Beetle
The blue metallic tiger beetle is an exceptionally beautiful insect, and this isn’t just in the photo. You should see one in real life, you will be awed! They measure from 9 to 15 mm in length and can run incredibly fast. You know that feeling you get when sitting in a speeding car with the windows rolled down? That’s how this beetle feels! They run so fast while chasing after prey that they become momentarily blind!
Don’t worry, this doesn’t do them any permanent damage. They just need to slow down, stop and take a breather to reorient themselves before continuing the chase. You may find these beautiful creatures on grasslands, open fields, and even at the beach. They pose no threat to humans and only actively prey on other insects such as spiders, ants, flies, and grasshoppers.
