Horse Fly
Before you admire the vibrant colors, I think you need to get some garlic to ward off this vampire fly. Okay, they are not vampires per se, but they feed on a bit of blood from animals and humans…sometimes. They are larger than the average housefly and are pretty quick, so do not dream of catching one unless you have the right tools. This fly kills the age-old vampire myth as they are completely inactive at night and prefer to “work” during the day.

They even fly in sunlight, so they can’t be vampires, right? Fun fact! Only female horse flies bite as they need the protein in your blood to develop their eggs, so if it comes down to it, they’ll chase you to get their meals. Even in the insect world, mothers will do anything for their children.
