How to Become a Tech Whiz

April 3, 2025 by Shelley Thompson

So you want to become more tech-savvy, huh? Well, that’s great news because our daily lives pretty much revolve around technology, so whether you’re here because you want to explore a new avenue for work or just for your own entertainment, we’ve got a few tips for those of you that are looking to improve your technical skills. Let’s get started!

Read All About It

Think about being a student, what is something you have to do a lot of? Read! And learning something new on your own is no different, you’ll want to take the time to read books, articles, magazines, even listen to podcasts and TedTalks about what tech avenues you’re interested in.

Learn to Code

We get that learning to code sounds intimidating, but there are a ton of free coding classes available, and since they’re virtual, you’ll be able to attend these courses on your own time. For most of these programs, you’ll even receive some sort of certificate at the end, which is great to have if you’re considering a job in the technology field.

Editorial content

Utilize Social Media

Find Facebook pages, Instagrams, even TikTok pages to follow that focus and report on technology. If you want to take social media a step further, consider starting your own blog about technology. By doing so you’ll have to research any and all avenues of technology that interest you, report on them, then share your newfound knowledge with the whole world!

Question Your Technology

Consider the pieces of technology you love and use all the time then ask these questions:

  • How does it help you, your work life, your home life, etc?
  • What updates have occurred recently? What do those look like?
  • Why do you think those particular updates were made?
  • What about the design? Is it colorful?
  • Is the design functional?
  • Is there anything you would change?

Answer these questions in a notebook or on a piece of paper that you can revisit occasionally.

Join a Cult, Err, Tech Community Online

If you have questions or comments regarding anything and everything tech-related, who better to ask than an entire online community of people that either know exactly what they’re talking about or have just as many questions as you that you can swap resources with.

Keep on Learning

The cool thing about technology is that nobody ever knows everything there is to know about it because it’s constantly changing, so never stop seeking out new information.
