Nyctophobia – Fear of being in the dark
Nyctophobia usually affects kids and some adults and may not necessarily be the sight of the dark, but the fear of what is lurking in the dark. During growth and development, it is common for kids to be terrified of the dark and grow out of the phase as they get older.
Popular researchers like Sigmund Freud linked nyctophobia to separation anxiety and disorder as he believed adult sufferers most likely have a strong attachment to a family member and dread separation. Also, people with sanguivoriphobia can experience nyctophobia as they assume a vampire is lurking in the dark.
