Obesophobia – Fear of gaining weight
Obesophobia is one of the major causes of eating disorders worldwide as obseophobes experience depression, body dysmorphia, and eating disorders. Also called pocrescophobia, obseophobes go on a diet by eating less than usual, over-exercising, and even starving. While many confuse obesophobia with anorexia, the two eating conditions are different and arise from different circumstances.
Anorexia patients deny eating, while obesophobes usually limit the amount of food eaten. They may go out to eat and engage in normal diet plans, yet they are always wary of gaining an ounce of weight. This phobia can be attributed to internal predispositions or bullying.
