The mind-bending history of skull shaping
Different cultures have different opinions about the definition of attractive. These variations and non-uniformity gave us various trends and customs aimed at fitting an individual into what their socially acceptable definition of beauty was. One such practice was skull shaping. In several cultures across the globe, the shape of one’s skull determined how attractive that person was. Therefore, people practiced several ways to shape their skull to be socially accepted and favored for it.
Infants as young as four to five months were often subjected to physical pressure applied over their heads to shape them into the desired shape as they grew. Elongated and oval-shaped skulls were considered attractive. Tribes like the Mayas, the Huns, and The Chinooks widely practiced skull shaping.
