We heard you loud and clear, this woman is indeed too old to be dressing as Casper the Friendly Ghost for Halloween. However, this is not a Casper costume; it is nowhere near a Halloween costume nor a dress from the Met Gala 2021. It is known as the ‘Anti-Sun’ hood from the 1930s when people feared sunburns and freckles on their skin.
Back when tanning and sunburns were looked down on by the masses while pale, white skin was considered a symbol of one’s social status. Therefore, adopting measures to prevent tanned skin became crucial. There were all sorts of weird inventions just like this one that might not guarantee 100% protection from sun-induced damage, but they were enough to secure a rank on our list!
