The unexpected sensation of severe hypothermia
Campers, hunters, and individuals stranded outside during an emergency are susceptible to hypothermia. Although not necessarily fatal, this illness can swiftly deteriorate into a crisis if left ignored.
While mild hypothermia causes a cold sensation, this alters as the disorder progresses into a more serious form. Severe hypothermia induces “paradoxical undressing,” in which people remove their clothes despite rapidly decreasing body temperature. This undressing exacerbates hypothermia and puts the victim at risk of freezing to death.
