Lobsters were a meal for the lower-class
These days, lobsters are a fine dish, mostly served on special occasions and in fancy restaurants. It is not an exotic food, but we would not say that everyone has it at home for dinner every day. Yet, in colonial America, they were one of the cheapest options. Actually, lobsters were considered a lower-class meal.
Weirdly enough, as we previously mentioned, lobsters were even used as bait for eels. So although they are still popular today and no one would consider them a bizarre food, we thought it was worth including this seafood in the list as proof of how different things were back then.
